This is a quote that seems quite apt here in the Great Northwest:
The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. – Henry Van Dyke
The upside of this great difference is stated by Virgil:
Now every field is clothed with grass, and every tree with leaves; now the woods put forth their blossoms, and the year assumes its gay attire. – Virgil
My we northwester’s soon enjoy the warmer (and dryer) days that this season promises.
Look closely for the fools day is nigh:
“It is the ability to take a joke, not make one, that proves you have a sense of humor.” -Max Eastman. Smart words for anyone on the receiving end of a prank on April Fools’ Day.
“I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I am saying.” -Oscar Wilde. Great to use after a prank has been pulled on you.
“Don’t give cherries to pigs or advice to fools.”- Irish proverb about fools
“It is better to weep with wise men than to laugh with fools.” – Proverb from Spain
Keep a sharp eye out this coming April 1st

Caring For Your Car
If you want your vehicle to last you a lifetime, then you should pay attention to how you treat your vehicle. Little things such as the manner in which you drive your vehicle, for instance, can greatly affect the overall handling of your car as well as the general wear and tear that your vehicle experiences. For instance, my boyfriend drives his car hard. He often tailgates other drivers, which results in him having to apply his brakes hard whenever someone brakes in front of him. Because of this, he has had to have his brake pads replaced more often than he would like. Additionally, he is not careful to avoid potholes and other debris in the roadway, which has caused him to have recurring problems with his vehicle’s alignment. This starts a chain reaction because once he doesn’t have his alignment fixed, it causes uneven wear and tear to his tires. As a result of this, his tires have had nothing but recurring issues with going flat simply due to being completely worn through in spots.
Taking care of your car isn’t just about how you drive it, it is also about how you maintain the interior and exterior of your vehicle. For instance, if you have a car that has leather seats in it, read through and know your car manufacturers guidelines for how to care for leather seats. This will save you from having seats that are cracked or that are more prone to getting torn, etc. For example, my mother used to have a Honda Accord that my father purchased for her as a birthday gift many years ago. When she received the car, it was brand new and had leather seating. However, my mother didn’t do anything to care for the seats, and over time, the seats began to show signs of wear and tear (literally). When she finally sold the car to get a newer one, the rest of the seats in her car still looked relatively new with the only exception being her driver’s seat (the one that she sat in). The leather was cracked and torn in sections. And to think- all of that could have been prevented if only she had been taking care of the seating according to the manufacturers guidelines!
In addition to taking care of your seats, you should make it a point to clean out your car ever couple of weeks or so. A lot of the frequency with which you clean the interior of your vehicle will depend on how often you drive your car as well as how dirty the interior gets. For instance, if you have children or pets that travel with you frequently, then you will probably have to clean the interior of your car more frequently. However, if you are the only person who is usually in your car, you may already keep it neat and will therefore not have to really worry about cleaning it quite as frequently.
Taking care of the exterior of your vehicle is important as well as taking care of other components. You should aim to wash your vehicle at least once every week- if not more- depending on the weather conditions and frequency with which you travel. Again, pay attention to the manufacturer guidelines so that you don’t damage the paint to your vehicle.
